Which paddle should I buy, what different paddles are there?
›
We'll help you decide whether to buy a paddle. You'll find a selection of paddles in our shop.
With our filter you can find out which paddle suits you by entering your height.
The recommended paddles are varied and different. We'll explain the differences to you. GTS N95, N90, River 94 are the cheapest paddles in our collection.
The paddle shafts are made of glass fiber plastic (GRP) and the paddle surfaces are made of PVC using the injection molding process. Series production is much faster than with GRP or carbon paddle surfaces.
These paddles are about 200 – 300 g heavier than carbon paddles.
For a small budget, you can get a top-notch SUP paddle suitable for beginners. The GTS NARROW and PROWAVE are carbon paddles with different designs and are made from different carbon fabrics.
The carbon designations UD, 3K, and 12K indicate the carbon weave pattern. For example, 12K means that 12,000 filaments are woven per "tow." UD Carbon means unidirectional and has no pattern.
3K carbon fabric is the lightest fabric and the paddles have a slight flex: We only offer these paddles in one piece. They weigh approximately 450 g and we will adjust them to your size.
Racing drivers prefer this. In the PRO series we offer paddles in silver Texalium-Carbon Composite.
These paddles are very stable, have less flex and feel very direct.
We offer this paddle series in 1, 2, and 3 pieces. They are also very light and do not require any connecting clips. NARROW PRO BLACK EDITION is made of carbon fabrics, where the weave forms hexagonal honeycombs.
This form of carbon weaving has the advantage that less carbon is used while maintaining the same strength properties. The paddles are ultra-strong, offer little flex and are very light.
Characteristics The carbon blades and paddle surfaces are handcrafted. Many steps are required to produce a carbon paddle.
Precision is very important to ensure the joints and connections are secure. Carbon paddles are very durable and hardly lose their value. They are lightweight, stiff, and very stable.

Which paddle shape should I buy and is a 1, 2 or 3-piece paddle right for me?
›
There are different paddle shapes and uses. A classic teardrop-shaped paddle surface can be used for surfing or for short paddle trips.
A narrower blade shape with almost straight edges offers you advantages on tours and long distances. Compared to a teardrop paddle, a NARROW paddle feels easier to paddle.
The pressure distribution is perceived as lighter. Three-piece paddles are easy to transport and store. They are ideal travel companions, and they are in no way inferior to two-piece paddles in terms of appearance and performance.
A 2-piece paddle weighs less than a 3-piece paddle of the same design. Ambitious paddlers prefer 2- and 3-piece paddles for training.

Health aspect: How healthy is SUP – stand-up paddling?
›
Author Jan Herrmann / Physiotherapist
Stand-up paddling – a blessing for body and soul…
Nature, water, sun, exercise, peace, action, excitement, relaxation, fun... all at once? Can't you? Can you! – paddleboarding.
The workday was long again, the head is tired, the body sluggish, now you really need to get out and move around. But there he is again, barking and grimly showing his teeth: the inner demon.
Should I go jogging now or go to a hot summer gym?… Oh no…! But why not get out on the river again? Paddleboarding? The head gets some rest and the rest?
Yes, he has to get to work: THE FEET: They're in their shoes all day, under the table. This is the key to splayed feet. Now they can balance. It's amazing how much power is activated there.
Like small servomotors, the foot muscles have to maintain balance. It tightens! And not just your feet. LOWER LEG / THIGH: Oh man, oh man. That's buzzing.
The entire leg muscles are activated – sore muscles guaranteed. And it is precisely the interaction of foot and leg muscles in connection with external stimuli,
such as the coolness of the water, promotes blood circulation and tightens the connective tissue – goodbye cellulite! BUTTOCKS-ABDOMINAL-LUMBAR SPINE: Maintain balance, provide propulsion,
Maybe a headwind, not falling into the water—there's a lot our bodies have to do on the board. Our pelvis and hip joints are constantly compensating for all sorts of unexpected movements.
My stomach has to resist. If it weren't so tense, I wouldn't move a single meter forward. And you'll soon notice that.
You won't get a six-pack immediately, but you'll get one soon.
And what about your lower back? Often plagued by pain? Perhaps the most important effect of SUP (stand-up paddling) is the activation and strengthening of the deep back muscles.
In our civilized everyday life, these structures are the stepchildren: not promoted, not needed, weak!
But now on the board – work, work, work. Stability! UPPER BACK / SHOULDER BELT: Oh, how the burden of everyday life weighs on us! It makes us bend over...and we become so. In our everyday lives, we almost always work facing forward – desk, computer, workbench, car steering wheel.
Practically, as our nature is, we become – CROOKED-round backs.
When paddleboarding, the loading pattern changes. Our arms no longer work forward—no, the paddle must be behind! The shoulder girdle straightens, and the muscles that fixate the shoulder blades are stimulated.
The arm muscles, of course, also have to work hard.
HEAD: The head gets the beautiful: beautiful views, nature, air, light, relaxation, slowing down.
And a completely new and unfamiliar perspective of our world, which we actually thought we knew well.
CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM: From a training methodological point of view, it is, theoretically speaking, a moderate endurance training at low intensities with comprehensive activation of the supporting and core muscles over a longer period of time.
The result? ENERGY CONSUMPTION! You'll feel it immediately after landing, like a ravenous hunger! And with regular use: weight reduction.
So, what can I say: exercise for body and mind. Ideal! But be careful: don’t forget sunscreen and a sun hat!

Can I do SUP – stand-up paddling all year round?
›
Of course, you can paddle year-round. With the right equipment and preparation, you can paddle in almost any body of water.
Paddling is possible from the warmest waters to the coldest conditions. In cold waters, a dry suit is recommended and even vital. You should bring enough drinks and provisions with you, and a telephone is recommended.

Why are there cheaper boards at discount stores? Should I buy one of these, isn't that enough?
›
This example explains it well:
Compare SUP to another muscle-powered sport, such as cycling.
Where do you buy your bike?
There is a huge selection of affordable bikes at discount stores and many online platforms.
Large retail corporations are often behind these products. They are mass-produced at the lowest possible price. There's usually no room for innovation, sustainability, or fair trade. Find out who is behind a brand.
Most discounters order thousands of uniform boards and paddles – and do so at a very low purchase price. The products are usually available in uniform sizes and colors; there is usually no choice.
The working conditions of some manufacturers are unfair and workers often suffer from poisoning from the adhesives in poor ventilation. On various trips to Asian production sites, we noticed various deficiencies.
It was not uncommon for products from well-known sports discounters to be found there, which produce under the conditions described.
At discount stores or supermarkets, you won't get professional advice and you'll rarely be able to test the material or see it in person. Is price more important to you than size?
Do you also buy a children's bike for yourself just because it's cheap? It's your decision – you buy without advice, without testing the material and possibly the wrong size.
We therefore recommend that you buy a board or paddle that suits you from a specialist retailer – take advantage of the advice and support the specialist retailer. – you pay what you get now!

What does DCT mean? Why do I need a double (second) chamber in my board, and what do I need to consider?
›
Some of our boards have a second air chamber. These boards typically weigh about 1 kg more than the same model without DCT (Double Chamber Technology).
In some European countries you can only use federal waterways with a board that has two separate air chambers. The second chamber increases safety by a factor of 100 when paddling far from the shore.
In case of a defect, you have independent buoyancy support. Heavy paddlers weighing 110 kg or more, or touring paddlers with a lot of luggage, benefit from the additional torsional rigidity.
When using a double-chamber board, the order in which you fill and deflate the air is very important. First, fill the small, internal chamber.
The outer large chamber is then filled with the specified air pressure. First, release the air from the large chamber and then vent the small chamber.
Use our included pump with the deflation function. This will allow you to get all the air out and store your board safely. Close the valve with the pump during the deflation process.

How do I store my board correctly for a short or long period of time?
›
For longer storage (2 weeks or more), we recommend storing the board at full size with a little air.
Fill the board with approximately 7 – 8 psi until it is stiff.
If you don’t have space for it, Store the board without air and fold it into 3/3 parts without rolling it up. If you want to use your board for the first time after a long period of storage, lay it flat for 20 minutes without inflating it with air.
Then, after 20 minutes, fill the board with the ideal air pressure of 10 psi – 14.5 psi / 1 bar. Shorter storage (during the season) – You can fold the board as it was delivered.
Please store your board in a dry and protected place without temperature fluctuations of 10 degrees Celsius – 30 degrees Celsius. Never store your board in a car for long periods of time during the summer.
It can quickly get over 50 degrees Celsius in the car. Adhesive joints can become unstable, which can lead to damage to the board.

How do I clean and care for my board?
›
You can clean your board with water. You'll need a microfiber cloth or a soft sponge for cleaning.
Let the water work on the dirty areas for about 2-3 minutes.
You can remove most dirt with a cloth or sponge. If the dirt is stubborn and plain water does not work, use a special PVC cleaner.
Please note that the cleaner is solvent-free and environmentally friendly. GTS grandtoursports offers a biodegradable cleaner and care product.
These two cleaners can remove almost all types of dirt. These two products are biodegradable and can be used safely on land and in water.
The surface is resealed with Magic ECO CARE. Your board will last longer if you avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun. UV radiation is responsible for over 90% of all defective boards.
UV radiation damages the adhesives and removes the plasticizers from the materials. In the water you can't avoid the sun's rays, but on land you should try to find a shady spot for your equipment.
